Chapter 24 — कुण्डनिर्माणादिविधिः
Procedure for Constructing the Fire-pit and Related Rites
वह्निमात्मनि संयोज्य विष्वक्सेनं विसर्जयेत् बुभुक्षुः सर्वमाप्नोति मुमुक्षुर् लीयते हरौ
vahnimātmani saṃyojya viṣvaksenaṃ visarjayet bubhukṣuḥ sarvamāpnoti mumukṣur līyate harau
将圣火阿耆尼(Agni)融入自身之后,应依仪式遣送(visarjana)毗湿伐克塞那(Viṣvaksena)。求享乐者得一切;求解脱者则融入诃利(Hari,即毗湿奴)。
Lord Agni (narrating the ritual procedure to Sage Vasiṣṭha)
Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Philosophy","practical_application":"Mantra-yoga closure: internalize agni (vahni-samyoga) as inner purification/tejas, then formally dismiss the invoked guardian-deity (Viṣvaksena) to complete the rite; frames outcomes for bhukti vs mukti aspirants.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Commentary","entry_title":"Vahni-ātma-saṃyoga and Viṣvaksena-visarjana; bhukti–mukti phala","lookup_keywords":["vahni","ātma-saṃyoga","viṣvaksena-visarjana","bhukti","mukti"],"quick_summary":"Unite the sacred fire within (inner tejas) and then dismiss the invoked attendant-deity; the practice is said to yield worldly attainments for the enjoyer-seeker and absorption in Hari for the liberation-seeker."}
Concept: Bhukti–mukti polarity: the same worship can be oriented toward worldly fruition or liberation; inner agni symbolizes purified consciousness leading to Hari-sāyujya for the mumukṣu.
Application: Set intention (saṅkalpa) clearly; perform proper closure (visarjana) to avoid ritual incompletion; use inner-fire contemplation to shift from bhoga-orientation to mokṣa-orientation.
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi / Mantra-yoga (Vishnu worship with Visvaksena-nyasa and mantra dismissal)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A practitioner seated in meditation visualizes a flame at the heart, then performs a formal gesture of dismissal toward a small Viṣvaksena icon; behind, a Vishnu image symbolizes final merging into Hari.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, yogic figure with inner flame motif at chest, subtle aura, small Vishvaksena figure at side receiving visarjana gesture, Vishnu in background niche, warm ochres and greens.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore style, central meditating devotee with stylized inner flame, Vishnu panel with gold halo, small Vishvaksena icon, rich gold work emphasizing tejas and divine presence.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, clear step-by-step composition: inner agni visualization, then visarjana mudra toward Vishvaksena, calm palette, fine outlines, didactic layout.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, intimate interior with a seated ascetic, delicate flame motif, attendant deity figure being dismissed, Vishnu painting on wall, intricate carpets and borders."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"contemplative","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"slow","voice_tone":"contemplative"}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: vahnimātmani → vahnim + ātmani; sarvamāpnoti → sarvam + āpnoti; mumukṣur līyate → mumukṣuḥ + līyate (visarga sandhi).
Related Themes: Agni Purana 24 (puja-vidhi closure context); Agni Purana 25 (mantra orientation that follows)
It teaches a specific closure step in Vishnu-rituals: internalizing Agni through nyāsa/inner-conjunction (vahnim ātmani saṃyojya) and then performing visarjana—formally dismissing Viṣvaksena, the protective attendant invoked for the rite.
It combines practical liturgical mechanics (invocation and dismissal of a deity in a structured puja) with a doctrinal summary of outcomes—bhoga (worldly attainment) and moksha (merging in Hari)—showing how the Agni Purana integrates ritual technology with soteriology.
Proper visarjana and inner-union of Agni signify completing the rite without leaving invoked energies ‘unresolved’; karmically, the practice is framed as efficacious for both worldly success (for bubhukṣu) and final liberation through absorption in Vishnu (for mumukṣu).
