FAQs

This verse imparts deva-gaṇa taxonomy—identifying specific divine classes (Viśvedevas, Sādhyas, Maruts, Vasus) and their progenitors—used in ritual enumeration, mantra-context, and puranic cosmological mapping.

By cataloging deity-classes and their origins, it functions like a reference index for Vedic/Puranic pantheon structure—one of the Agni Purāṇa’s hallmark ‘encyclopedic’ features alongside ritual, polity, medicine, and arts.

Knowing and correctly naming divine classes is traditionally held to support accurate worship and recitation; it strengthens śraddhā (faith) and aligns ritual intention with the proper cosmic order described by the Purāṇas.
