It defines the Shaiva ideal of a true practitioner: devotion expressed as worship, purified by moderation, mastery of the senses, and compassion (non-harming), which together mature the soul toward Shiva’s grace and liberation.
Linga-worship is not merely external ritual; it must be supported by inner discipline—controlled senses, restrained living, and freedom from hatred—so the devotee’s pūjā becomes fit to receive the fruit of Saguna Shiva’s worship and leads toward realization.
Maintain daily Shiva-pūjā with a regulated diet and conduct, practice sense-restraint alongside japa (especially the Panchakshara, ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’), and cultivate non-injury and goodwill as part of the vow-like discipline of worship.
