The Dialogue at the Gate: Gaṇeśa and Śiva’s Gaṇas

Role: teaching
It teaches that contentious speech (vāgvāda) is a form of bondage (pāśa) that disturbs the mind and blocks śānti; restraint and harmony support devotion and inner clarity, which are essential for approaching Shiva.
Linga-worship emphasizes purity of mind, calmness, and reverence; verbal quarrel agitates the mind and weakens bhakti, whereas peaceful conduct prepares the devotee for focused pūjā, japa, and contemplation of Saguna Shiva.
Adopt disciplined speech (mauna in spirit), then return to steady japa—especially the Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—so the mind settles into peace rather than argument.
