The Determination of Śiva as the Meaning of Praṇava
त्रैवर्णिकानामेवात्र श्रुत्याचारसमन्वयः । शुश्रूषामात्रसारा हि शूद्राः श्रुतिबहिष्कृताः
traivarṇikānāmevātra śrutyācārasamanvayaḥ | śuśrūṣāmātrasārā hi śūdrāḥ śrutibahiṣkṛtāḥ
Ở đây, sự hòa hợp giữa Śruti (mặc khải Veda) và Ācāra (tập tục hành trì) chỉ thuộc về ba giai cấp “hai lần sinh”. Còn Śūdra, do bị loại khỏi việc học Veda, nên lấy sự phụng sự, hầu cận tận tâm làm bổn phận chính.

It distinguishes Vedic-study eligibility from spiritual liberation, implying that while Vedic recitation may be restricted by social dharma, devotion and service offered to Shiva remain spiritually potent when grounded in humility and right conduct.
Linga worship in the Shiva Purana is frequently presented as a direct, grace-based path to Saguna Shiva that can be performed with faith, offerings, and service, even where Vedic recitation is not prescribed; the emphasis shifts from recitation-rights to sincere upachara (devotional service).
The verse points to śuśrūṣā—devotional service—as a primary practice: serving Shiva’s devotees, supporting temple worship, and performing simple Linga-upacharas with mantra-based devotion (e.g., Panchakshara japa) rather than relying on Vedic chanting.
