Having thus spoken, the most brilliant and best among brahmins (Satananda) became silent. In the presence of Rama and Lakshmana, Janaka listened to the words of Satananda. And with folded palms said to the son of Kushika (Viswamitra):
Dharma here is steadfast self-discipline: enduring hardship without yielding to anger, and holding firmly to a righteous resolve (niścaya) in spiritual practice.
Śatānanda is recounting the extraordinary austerities of Viśvāmitra—how he remained unmoved for a thousand years despite repeated obstacles.
Forbearance and inner mastery (krodha-nirodha): the ability to face provocations without letting anger enter the mind.
