Anasuya’s Counsel and Sita’s Swayamvara Narrative
दत्ता चास्मीष्टवद्देव्यै ज्येष्ठायै पुण्यकर्मणा।तया सम्भाविता चास्मि स्निग्धया मातृसौहृदात्।।2.118.33।।
dattā cāsmīṣṭavad devyai jyeṣṭhāyai puṇyakarmaṇā | tayā sambhāvitā cāsmi snigdhayā mātṛ-sauhṛdāt || 2.118.33 ||
Và vị vua tạo phước ấy đã trao ta—như lễ vật vô cùng trân quý—cho hoàng hậu trưởng; còn bà, hiền từ đằm thắm, đã nuôi dưỡng ta bằng tình thương của mẹ.
Bestowed as the choicest one of meritorious acts on the chief queen, I was brought up by her, by nature affectionate, with the love of a mother.
Dharma is shown as caregiving duty: a child received by fate must be protected, nurtured, and honored through proper familial roles.
Sītā describes being entrusted to the chief queen and being raised with maternal affection.
The queen’s tenderness and responsible motherhood; Janaka’s merit expressed through proper guardianship.
