Anasuya’s Counsel and Sita’s Swayamvara Narrative
ततः प्रहृष्टो धर्मात्मा पिता मे मिथिलाधिपः।अवाप्तो विपुलां बुद्धिं मामवाप्य नराधिपः।।2.118.32।।
tataḥ prahṛṣṭo dharmātmā pitā me mithilādhipaḥ | avāpto vipulāṁ buddhiṁ mām avāpya narādhipaḥ || 2.118.32 ||
Bấy giờ, phụ vương ta—đấng hộ trì Chánh Pháp, chúa tể Mithilā—hoan hỷ vô cùng; và khi được ta làm con, bậc quân vương liền đạt trí quyết rộng lớn, cao quý.
Thereafter, my father and the righteous lord of Mithila was delighted in possessing me when a noble thought struck his mind.
A righteous ruler responds to divine or providential events with responsible resolve, treating the received child as a dharmic trust rather than a mere possession.
After the celestial confirmation, Janaka rejoices and forms a firm intention regarding Sītā’s care and future.
Janaka’s righteousness (dharmātmā) expressed as wise, steady decision-making.
