गङ्गामाहात्म्य — The Greatness of the Gaṅgā

kecidviśīrṇakeśāśca valmīkopari saṃsthitāḥ | tṛṇānyabhakṣayankecinnagnāśca viviśurjalam || 35 ||
Có kẻ tóc tai rối bời ngồi trên ụ mối; có kẻ chỉ ăn cỏ; lại có kẻ trần truồng lao xuống nước.
Narada (narrative description within the dialogue framework)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It depicts extreme forms of tapas and outward renunciation—showing how some seekers adopt harsh bodily disciplines to pursue detachment and liberation.
By contrast, it implies that mere external austerity is not the whole path; in the Narada Purana’s broader teaching, inner purity and devotion to the Lord are essential beyond physical self-mortification.
No specific Vedanga (like Vyakarana, Jyotisha, or Kalpa) is taught in this verse; it is primarily an ethical-spiritual observation about ascetic conduct (tapas) and renunciation.
