Adhyaya 31 — Naimittika and Related Śrāddha Rites: Sapiṇḍīkaraṇa, Eligibility, Timing, and Procedure
यथा सुखं जुषध्वं भो इति वाच्यमनिष्टुरम् ।
भुञ्जीरंश्च ततस्तेऽपि तच्चित्ता मौनिनः सुखम् ॥
yathā sukhaṃ juṣadhvaṃ bho iti vācyamaniṣṭhuram / bhuñjīraṃśca tataste 'pi taccittā mauninaḥ sukham
Rồi người ấy nên nói một cách ôn hòa, không gay gắt: “Xin các ngài thọ thực cho an lạc.” Khi ấy họ nên ăn trong im lặng, mãn nguyện, tâm chuyên chú vào nghi lễ ấy, một cách thong thả.

The rite is sustained by vāṅ-niyama (discipline of speech): gentleness toward guests is itself dharma, and the guests’ silence indicates focused participation rather than casual eating.

Silence (mauna) during consumption functions as a containment of prāṇa and attention, making the act of eating an inward offering aligned to pitṛ-tarpaṇa intent.
