Draupadī’s Lament and Theodicy: Dharma, Dice, and Īśvara’s Governance (Āraṇyaka-parva 31)
Dharma should be trusted when it is validated by śiṣṭācāra (the conduct of exemplary people) and by the testimony of far-seeing sages; one should not undermine such time-tested moral order through suspicion.
In the forest-exile context, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Draupadī (called Kṛṣṇā), urging her not to doubt the established dharma, emphasizing that it is ancient and affirmed by sages and practiced by the righteous.
