दर्श च पौर्णमासं च कुर्वन्‌ विगतमत्सर: । देवतातिथिशेषेण कुरुते देहयापनम्‌,उनके मनमें किसीके प्रति ईष्याका भाव नहीं था। वे प्रत्येक पक्षमें दर्श एवं पौर्णमास यज्ञ करते हुए देवताओं और अतिथियोंको उनका भाग अर्पित करके शेष अन्नसे जीवन- यापन करते थे

darśaṃ ca paurṇamāsaṃ ca kurvan vigatamatsaraḥ | devatātithiśeṣeṇa kurute dehayāpanam ||

Vyāsa nói: Ông không vướng lòng đố kỵ. Mỗi nửa tháng, ông đều đặn cử hành các nghi lễ Darśa và Paurṇamāsa. Sau khi dâng phần xứng đáng cho chư thiên và cho khách, ông nuôi thân bằng phần còn lại—sống bằng tiết chế, bổn phận và tri túc, chứ không bằng lòng tham.
