पाण्डवानां कुरूणां च राज्ञाममिततेजसाम् । विररामैवमुक्त्वा तु विदुरो दीनमानस: । प्रध्यायमान: स तदा नि: श्वसंश्व॒ पुन: पुन:
pāṇḍavānāṃ kurūṇāṃ ca rājñām amit-tejasām | virarāmaivam uktvā tu viduro dīna-mānasaḥ | pradhyāyamānaḥ sa tadā niḥśvasaṃś ca punaḥ punaḥ ||
Vidura, lòng nặng trĩu, nói như thế rồi lặng im. Khi suy tưởng sâu xa, ông cứ thở dài thật dài, lặp đi lặp lại, bởi trước mắt ông đã thấy bóng đại họa đang phủ xuống Pāṇḍava, Kuru và các vua chúa có uy lực không sao lường được. Câu kệ nhấn mạnh bi kịch đạo lý của một cuộc chiến sinh ra từ sự cố chấp: khi lời can gián bị gạt bỏ, ngay cả bậc hiền trí cũng chỉ còn biết đau buồn trước sự sụp đổ của dharma dẫn đến tai ương chung cho tất cả.
