Transliteration

śuciḥ śīlānvita-ācāraḥ śukla-vāsā jitendriyaḥ | saṃskṛtaḥ sarva-śāstra-jñaḥ śraddadhāno 'n-asūyakaḥ ||

Translation

Vaiśaṃpāyana nói: “Nên chọn làm người tụng kể (vācaka) một bậc học giả thanh tịnh cả trong lẫn ngoài, có đức hạnh và chánh hạnh, mặc y phục trắng sạch, tự chế, được giáo dưỡng, thấu triệt tinh yếu của mọi śāstra—có lòng tin và không soi mói lỗi người. Bậc ấy, được tôn kính và nâng đỡ bằng bố thí cùng sự kính trọng, mới xứng đáng truyền trao thánh truyện theo cách gìn giữ dharma.”
