पूर्ण श्रद्धाकें साथ क्रमश: कथा सुनते हुए उसे अन्ततक पूर्णरूपसे श्रवण करना चाहिये। यथाशक्ति श्रवणके लिये उद्यत रहकर मनको प्रसन्न रखे। हृदयमें हर्षसे उललसित हो मनमें संशय या तर्क-वितर्क न करे ।।
pūrṇaśraddhayā saha kramaśaḥ kathāṃ śṛṇvan tām antataḥ pūrṇarūpeṇa śravaṇaṃ kuryāt | yathāśakti śravaṇāya udyataḥ san manaḥ prasannaṃ rakṣet | hṛdaye harṣeṇa ullasitaḥ san manasi saṃśayaṃ vā tarka-vitarkaṃ na kuryāt || satyārjavavrato dāntaḥ śuciḥ śaucasamanvitaḥ | śraddadhāno jitakrodho yathā sidhyati tac chṛṇu ||
Vaiśampāyana nói: Phải lắng nghe câu chuyện này từng bước với lòng tin trọn vẹn, nghe đầy đủ cho đến tận cùng. Trong khả năng của mình, hãy chuyên tâm nghe và giữ tâm vui sáng. Lòng hân hoan nâng đỡ trái tim, chớ sa vào nghi hoặc hay tranh biện lý lẽ. Người nghe giữ lời thề với chân thật và ngay thẳng, tự chế, thanh tịnh và giữ sạch sẽ, có đức tin và chế ngự được cơn giận—người nghe như thế đạt thành tựu tâm linh ra sao, ta sẽ nói; hãy nghe đây.
