स्त्री-विलापः — गान्धार्याः रणभूमिदर्शनं शापवचनं च
Battlefield Lament and Gāndhārī’s Curse
आततपे क्लाम्यमानानां विविधानामिव स््रजाम् । क्लान्तानामपि नारीणां श्रीर्जहाति न वै तनू:
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: ātatape klāmyamānānāṃ vividhānām iva srajām | klāntānām api nārīṇāṃ śrīr jahāti na vai tanūḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana nói: Như những tràng hoa đủ loại rũ xuống và héo tàn dưới sức nóng, các phụ nữ bị mặt trời thiêu đốt đến kiệt quệ; thế nhưng, ngay trong cơn mệt lả, vẻ đẹp và ánh phong thái vương giả vẫn không thật sự rời bỏ thân thể họ. Cảnh ấy phơi bày hậu quả tàn nhẫn của chiến tranh: tang tóc và đau đớn thể xác không xóa được phẩm giá bẩm sinh, và những người sống sót—nhất là các vương hậu góa bụa—xứng đáng được tôn kính chứ không phải bị lãng quên.
