Adhyātma–Adhibhūta–Adhidaivata Correspondences and the Triguṇa Lakṣaṇas (Śānti-parva 301)

इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थाश्व॒ सर्वानात्मनि संश्रितान्‌ । दुर्लभत्वं च मोक्षस्य विज्ञाय श्रुतिपूर्वकम्‌

indriyāṇīndriyārthāś ca sarvān ātmani saṃśritān | durlabhatvaṃ ca mokṣasya vijñāya śrutipūrvakam ||

Bhīṣma nói: Khi đã hiểu—dựa trên thẩm quyền của giáo huấn thánh điển—rằng các căn và các đối tượng của căn đều nương tựa nơi Tự Ngã, và khi đã nhận ra sự khó khăn tột bậc của việc đạt giải thoát, người ta nên tiến bước với tuệ giác có kỷ luật và sự tự chế.

Educational Q&A

Liberation is rare and difficult; therefore one should understand, in line with Śruti, that senses and sense-objects are subordinate to the Self, and cultivate restraint and discernment rather than being driven by sensory pursuits.

In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma continues his instruction on dharma and the path to liberation, emphasizing an Upaniṣadic perspective: the senses and their objects do not stand independently but depend upon the ātman, and scriptural testimony should guide one’s pursuit of mokṣa.
