इन्द्रेण वृत्रवधः, ब्रह्महत्याया अनुगमनम्, तथा च विभाजन-निवासविधानम्

अनुक्रोशादधर्म च जयेद् धर्ममवेक्षया । आयत्या च जयेदाशामर्थ संगविवर्जनात्,अधर्मको दयासे और धर्मको विचारपूर्वक पालन करनेसे जीते। भविष्यका विचार करके आशापर और आसत्तिके त्यागसे अर्थपर विजय प्राप्त करे
anukrośād adharmaṃ ca jayed dharmam avekṣayā | āyatyā ca jayed āśām artha-saṅga-vivarjanāt ||
Bhīṣma nói: Nhờ lòng từ bi, người ta nên thắng cả khuynh hướng nghiêng về phi pháp; và luôn lấy dharma làm chuẩn, người ta sẽ đứng vững trong chính pháp. Lại nữa, với cái nhìn hướng về tương lai, hãy chinh phục niềm hy vọng và sự thèm khát; bằng cách từ bỏ sự bám víu và chấp thủ vào của cải, người ta đạt được quyền làm chủ đối với những mục tiêu vật chất.
