Adhyāya 272: Vṛtrasya Dharmiṣṭhatā, Indrasya Mohaḥ, Vasiṣṭha-upadeśaḥ

Vṛtra’s dharmic stature; Indra’s disorientation; Vasiṣṭha’s counsel

prajñā dharme ca ramate dharma caivopajīvati | so 'tha dharmād avāpteṣu dhaneṣu kurute manaḥ ||

Educational Q&A

Wisdom is shown by taking joy in dharma and depending on it for one’s way of life; wealth is acceptable only when it is acquired through righteous means, not by abandoning dharma.

In Shanti Parva, Bhishma instructs Yudhishthira on righteous conduct after the war; here he describes the disposition of a truly wise person—one who treats dharma as the foundation and regards wealth only as dharma-earned.
