Instruction on the Cessation of Craving

Educational Q&A

Kapila rejects the blanket claim that liberation is impossible for householders. He teaches that such denial arises from lack of faith, poor discernment, and absence of subtle spiritual insight; properly lived gṛhastha-dharma is not inherently opposed to mokṣa.

In the Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma and liberation, Kapila speaks critically of those who condemn the householder stage. He argues that their judgment reflects their own limitations rather than the true capacity of the gṛhastha-āśrama to support spiritual realization.
