Vimokṣa-niścaya: Pañcaśikha’s Analysis of Aggregates, Guṇas, and Tyāga (मोक्षनिर्णयः)

सत्त्वस्यथ रजसश्वैव तमसश्न निबोध तान्‌ । प्रसादो हर्षजा प्रीतिरसंदेहो धृति: स्मृति: । एतान्‌ सत्त्वगुणान्‌ विद्यादिमान्‌ राजसतामसान्‌

sattvasya atha rajasaś caiva tamasaś ca nibodha tān | prasādo harṣajā prītir asaṃdeho dhṛtiḥ smṛtiḥ | etān sattvaguṇān vidyād imān rājasatāmasān |

Bhīṣma nói: “Nay hãy hiểu tác dụng của ba phẩm tính—sattva, rajas và tamas. Sự an tĩnh của tâm, niềm vui sinh ra lòng mến thương, sự không còn nghi hoặc, sự vững bền và ký ức—đó là những vận hành của sattva. Trái lại, những xung lực như dục vọng và sân hận, cùng với sự lơ đãng, tham lam, mê muội, sợ hãi, mệt mỏi, chán nản, sầu khổ, bất mãn, kiêu mạn, ngạo nghễ và hành vi thô lỗ vô lễ—phải được nhận biết là những vận hành của rajas và tamas.”
