त्रिवर्गविचारः

Tri-varga Deliberation: Dharma, Artha, Kāma

गुरुपूजा च कौरव्य दया भूतेष्वपैशुनम्‌ । जनवादं मृषावादं स्तुतिनिन्दाविसर्जनम्‌

gurupūjā ca kauravya dayā bhūteṣv apaiśunam | janavādaṃ mṛṣāvādaṃ stutinindāvisarjanam ||

Bhīṣma nói: “Hỡi Kauravya, người đã chế ngự được tâm và các căn thì tự nhiên kính trọng thầy và bậc trưởng thượng, thương xót mọi loài hữu tình, và không sa vào lời gièm pha. Người ấy từ bỏ chuyện bêu riếu, đồn đãi nơi công chúng, lời nói dối, cùng thói quen khen chê người khác; và không nương theo các lỗi như dục vọng, sân hận, tham lam, kiêu mạn, u mê, khoe khoang, oán giận, ganh tị, hay khinh miệt người đời.”

Mastery over mind and senses expresses itself as ethical speech and conduct: reverence for teachers, compassion for all beings, and avoidance of slander, rumor, lying, and the destabilizing habit of praising or blaming others—along with other inner vices.
