Vaiśampāyana nói: Nghe những lời than khóc đầy lòng trắc ẩn vang lên từ mười phương, Devala liền quyết trong tâm sẽ từ bỏ con đường mokṣa-dharma—hạnh xuất gia—bị lay động bởi nỗi khổ của muôn loài và sức thúc giục của đạo lý phải đáp lại cảnh khốn cùng của họ.
