व्रतैश्न नियमैश्वनैव काले काले सम भुज्जते | वे सब-के-सब अन्न छोड़कर व्रत और नियमोंका पालन करते हुए समय-समयपर उस वृक्षका ही फल खाया करते थे

vrataiś ca niyamaiś caiva kāle kāle sama-bhuñjate

Vaiśampāyana nói: Giữ gìn các lời thệ nguyện và kỷ luật tu hành, họ đến đúng thời khắc thì dùng bữa một cách chừng mực, có quy củ. Từ bỏ mọi thứ lương thực thường ngày và ngũ cốc, họ nương theo giới hạnh khổ hạnh mà chỉ sống bằng trái của chính cây ấy.
