नकुलपुत्र नवयुवक शतानीकने कर्णके नौजवान बेटे वृषसेनको अपने बाणसमूहोंसे घायल कर दिया तथा शूरीर कर्णपुत्र वृषसेनने भी अनेक बाणोंकी वर्षा करके पांचालीकुमार शतानीकको गहरी चोट पहुँचायी ।।
ratharṣabhaḥ kṛtavarmāṇam arcchan mādrīputro nakulaḥ śastrayodhī | pañcālānām adhipo yājñaseniḥ senāpatiḥ karṇam arcchat sa-sainyam ||
Sañjaya nói: Nakula, con của Mādrī—bậc nhất trong hàng chiến xa, tinh thông binh khí—đã dồn ép Kṛtavarman dữ dội giữa trận tiền. Cùng lúc ấy, Yājñaseni, chúa tể xứ Pañcāla và tổng chỉ huy đại quân, dẫn theo binh mã tiến thẳng đến đối đầu Karṇa.
