अशवनुवंश्वाभिमन्यो: कर्ण: स्थातुं रणेडग्रत: । सौभद्रशरनिर्भिन्नो विसंज्ञ: शोणितोक्षित:
aśvan uvaṁśvābhimanyoḥ karṇaḥ sthātuṁ raṇe 'grataḥ | saubhadra-śara-nirbhinnō visaṁjñaḥ śoṇitokṣitaḥ ||
Sañjaya nói: Karṇa, không còn đủ sức trụ vững ở tuyến đầu khi đối mặt Abhimanyu, đã bị những mũi tên của con trai Subhadrā xuyên phá; ông ngã xuống bất tỉnh, mình mẩy đẫm máu. Cảnh ấy cho thấy giữa cơn hỗn loạn của chiến tranh, ngay cả bậc hùng cường nhất cũng có thể bị khuất phục trước dũng khí và sự kháng cự chính đáng; và tài nghệ không biết tự chế rốt cuộc cũng gặp giới hạn nơi chiến địa.
