कर्णस्य दानप्रतिज्ञा–शल्योपदेश–वाक्ययुद्धम्

हयारोहाश्व बहव: परिवार्य गजोत्तमान् | तलशब्दरवांश्वक्रु: सम्पतन्तस्ततस्तत:
sañjaya uvāca | hayārohāś ca bahavaḥ parivārya gajottamān | tālaśabdaravāṁś cakruḥ sampatantas tatas tataḥ ||
Sañjaya thưa: Nhiều kỵ binh vây quanh những chiến tượng thượng hạng, lao qua lại khắp nơi, vỗ tay gây nên tiếng ầm vang náo loạn. Bị tiếng động làm kinh hoảng, những con voi khổng lồ chạy tán loạn; rồi kỵ binh bắn tên đánh từ hai bên sườn và từ phía sau—một hình ảnh của chiến tranh đầy toan tính tàn nhẫn, nơi tiếng ồn, hoảng loạn và cuộc truy kích được dùng để bẻ gãy cả những lực lượng hùng mạnh nhất.
