चिच्छेद रथिनां बाणै: शिरांसि भरतर्षभ
sañjaya uvāca | ciccheda rathināṁ bāṇaiḥ śirāṁsi bharatarṣabha | jighāṁsantaṁ yudhāṁ śreṣṭha tadā āsīt tumulaṁ mahat ||
Sañjaya thưa: “Hỡi bậc tráng sĩ trong dòng Bhārata, bằng tên của mình, Śveta đã chém lìa đầu của nhiều chiến binh xa chiến. Khi Bhīṣma—bậc nhất trong hàng chiến sĩ—bị những kẻ quyết giết ông công kích, một trận chiến mênh mông, cuồng loạn liền bùng nổ. Cảnh ấy phơi bày sự căng thẳng đạo lý của chiến tranh: lòng dũng cảm và ý chí bảo vệ phe mình nhanh chóng hóa thành cơn cuồng sát khi mục tiêu trở thành việc hạ sát một bậc trưởng lão đáng kính.”
