When dharma is endangered and collective wrongdoing ripens, nature itself is described as reflecting disorder through ominous signs. The verse underscores the ethical gravity of war: it is not merely a political event but a moral rupture with cosmic consequences.
Vyāsa reports terrifying portents—dust raining everywhere and clouds raining blood at night—signaling impending catastrophe and the approach of the great war’s destructive phase.
