Shloka 25

सोअन्यत्‌ कार्मुकमादाय गाड़्ेयो वेगवत्तरम्‌ । (जघान निशितैर्बाणैरर्जुनं परवीरहा ।) तदप्यस्य शितैर्बाणैस्त्रिभिश्चिच्छेद फाल्गुन:

sa anyat kārmukam ādāya gāṅgeyo vegavattaram | jaghāna niśitair bāṇair arjunaṁ paravīrahā || tad apy asya śitair bāṇais tribhiś ciccheda phālgunaḥ | atāḍayan raṇe bhīṣmaṁ sahitāḥ sarvasṛñjayāḥ ||

Sañjaya nói: Rồi Bhīṣma, con của sông Gaṅgā, kẻ diệt các dũng tướng địch, cầm lấy một cây cung khác, mạnh và nhanh hơn, mà bắn Arjuna bằng những mũi tên sắc. Nhưng Arjuna (Phālguna) lại dùng ba mũi tên bén chém đứt cây cung ấy. Trong khi đó, toàn thể các Sṛñjaya đồng lòng hợp sức, từ mọi phía dồn ép Bhīṣma trên chiến địa. Đoạn này nêu rõ đạo lý lạnh lùng của chiến trường: tài nghệ gặp tài nghệ đối kháng; và ngay cả chiến sĩ hùng mạnh nhất cũng bị hoàn cảnh trói buộc—ở đây, sự mong manh của Bhīṣma càng tăng bởi sức ép phối hợp và mối căng thẳng đạo đức khi phải chiến đấu trong khuôn khổ lời thề và những ràng buộc xưa.
