त्रिदशा5पि समुद्युक्ता नाल॑ भीष्म॑ं समासितुम् | किमु पार्था महात्मानं मर्त्यभूता महाबला:
tridaśā api samudyuktā nālaṁ bhīṣmaṁ samāsitum | kimu pārthā mahātmānaṁ martyabhūtā mahābalāḥ ||
Sañjaya thưa: Dẫu các chư thiên có cùng tụ hội, cùng gắng sức, cũng không thể đối đầu Bhīṣma trong chiến trận. Huống chi các con trai hùng mạnh của Pṛthā—chỉ là phàm nhân chịu luật tử vong—làm sao có thể đứng vững trước Bhīṣma đại hồn ấy? Lời ấy nhấn mạnh sức nặng đạo đức của tầm vóc Bhīṣma và sự chênh lệch ghê gớm mà chiến tranh tạo ra khi đức hạnh, kinh nghiệm và định mệnh hội tụ trong một chiến binh.
