यथोषरे बीजमुप्तं न रोहे- न्न चावप्ता प्राप्तुयाद् बीजभागम् | एवं श्राद्ध भुक्तमनर्हमाणै- न चेह नामुत्र फलं ददाति
yathoṣare bījam uptaṁ na rohe(n) na cāvaptā prāpnuyād bījabhāgam | evaṁ śrāddha-bhuktam anarha-māṇaiḥ na ceha nāmutra phalaṁ dadāti ||
Bhishma nói: Như hạt giống gieo trên đất mặn cằn cỗi thì không nảy mầm, người gieo cũng chẳng được phần lợi nào; cũng vậy, cơm lễ śrāddha nếu bị kẻ không xứng đáng thọ dụng thì không đem lại ích lợi—không ở đời này, cũng chẳng ở đời sau. Nghi lễ chỉ kết quả khi được dâng với sự phân biệt sáng suốt cho người đáng nhận.
