Austerity, regulated fasting, residual-eating, and hospitality
श्राद्धे त्वथ महाराज परीक्षेद् ब्राह्मणान् बुध: । कुलशीलवयोरूपैर्विद्ययाभिजनेन च
śrāddhe tv atha mahārāja parīkṣed brāhmaṇān budhaḥ | kulaśīlavayorūpair vidyayābhijanena ca ||
Bhīṣma nói: “Nhưng vào lúc cử hành śrāddha, tâu Đại vương, người trí phải xét chọn các bà-la-môn—dựa vào dòng tộc, hạnh kiểm, tuổi tác, dung mạo, học vấn và xuất thân cao quý. Bởi trong nghi lễ dâng cho tổ tiên, sự phân biệt chọn người xứng đáng sẽ gìn giữ tính thiêng của lễ vật và nâng đỡ dharma.”
