The Duty to Fulfill Promised Gifts
पृथ्वीनाथ! ब्राह्मणको पहले आशा दे देनेपर वह समिधासे प्रज्वलित हुई अग्निके समान उद्दीप्त हो उठता है ।।
pṛthvīnātha! brāhmaṇako pahale āśā de denepara vaha samidhā-se prajvalita huī agni ke samāna uddīpta ho uṭhatā hai. yaṁ nirīkṣeta saṁkruddha āśayā pūrvajātayā | pradhec ca hi taṁ rājan kakṣam akṣayya-bhug yathā ||
Bhīṣma nói: “Hỡi chúa tể của cõi đất! Khi trước hết người ta gieo cho một Bà-la-môn niềm hy vọng, ông ta bừng lên dữ dội như ngọn lửa được tiếp thêm bó củi. Và, hỡi đại vương, khi niềm hy vọng đã sinh trước ấy bị bẻ gãy, vị Bà-la-môn bốc cháy vì phẫn nộ có thể thiêu thành tro bất cứ ai mà ánh mắt ông ta hướng đến—như ngọn lửa không ngừng nuốt chửng một đống cỏ khô hay củi khô.”
