देवानामुपरिष्टाच्च गाव: प्रतिवसन्ति वै । दत्त्वा चैतास्तारयन्ते यान्ति स्वर्ग मनीषिण:
devānām upariṣṭāc ca gāvaḥ prativasanti vai | dattvā caitās tārayante yānti svargaṃ manīṣiṇaḥ ||
Bhīṣma tuyên bố: “Bò cư trú ở những cõi còn cao hơn cả cõi của chư thiên. Vì thế, bậc hiền trí đem bò làm vật bố thí sẽ tự cứu mình khỏi hiểm nạn và đạt đến thiên giới—khiến go-dāna (hiến tặng bò) trở thành một hành vi công đức tối thượng, đặt nền trên dharma và lòng từ mẫn.”
