विवाहांश्वैव कुर्वीत पुत्रानुत्पादयेत च । पुत्रलाभो हि कौरव्य सर्वलाभाद् विशिष्यते,कुरुनन्दन! मनुष्य विवाह करे और पुत्र उत्पन्न करे। पुत्रका लाभ सब लाभोंसे बढ़कर है
vivāhāṁś caiva kurvīta putrān utpādayet ca | putralābho hi kauravya sarvalābhād viśiṣyate, kurunandana ||
Bhishma nói: “Người ta nên kết hôn và sinh con trai. Bởi, hỡi hậu duệ nhà Kuru, được một người con trai vượt hơn mọi sự được khác.”
भीष्म उवाच
Bhishma teaches that entering marriage and producing offspring is a key duty of the householder, and that the ‘gain of a son’—symbolizing continuity of family, social obligations, and ritual responsibilities—is regarded as superior to other worldly gains.
In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma is instructing a Kuru prince (addressed as ‘Kauravya’ and ‘Kurunandana’) on dharma. Here he gives direct prescriptive counsel about marriage and progeny as part of righteous living.
