Dāyavibhāga (Inheritance Apportionment) and Household Precedence — Dialogue of Yudhiṣṭhira and Bhīṣma
तत्पाणिग्रहणात् पूर्वमन्तरं यत्र वर्तते । सर्वमड्रलमन्त्रं वै मृषावादस्तु पातक:
tat-pāṇigrahaṇāt pūrvam antaraṃ yatra vartate | sarva-maṅgala-mantraṃ vai mṛṣāvādas tu pātakaḥ ||
Bhīṣma nói: Nếu trước nghi thức nắm tay cô dâu (pāṇigrahaṇa) có sự gián đoạn hay trở ngại—dẫu các lễ cát tường và thần chú đã được cử hành—mà cô gái được gả cho một chú rể khác xứng đáng, thì người trao gả (người giám hộ) chỉ mắc tội nói dối mà thôi.
