समयुज्यत कालेन भरतानां कुलोद्वह: । नृपश्रेष्ठट इस प्रकार भरतवंशका भार वहन करनेवाले शान्तनुनन्दन राजा भीष्म कालके अधीन हुए

Transliteration

samayujyata kālena bharatānāṁ kulodvahaḥ | nṛpaśreṣṭhaḥ tathā śāntanunandanaḥ rājā bhīṣmaḥ kālasyādhīno 'bhavat ||

Translation

Vaiśampāyana nói: Đến đúng kỳ hạn, đấng gánh vác tối thượng của dòng Bharata—vị vua ưu việt Bhīṣma, con của Śāntanu—cũng bị gắn vào thời khắc đã định; ngay cả ngài cũng phải quy phục dưới quyền uy của Thời Gian. Đoạn này nhấn mạnh suy tư đạo lý: không một vĩ đại, lời thệ nguyện hay đức độ vương giả nào có thể đứng ngoài luật phổ quát của vô thường.
