द्वे तनू तस्य देवस्य वेदज्ञा ब्राह्मणा विदु: । घोरामन्यां शिवामन्यां ते तनू बहुधा पुनः
dve tanū tasya devasya vedajñā brāhmaṇā viduḥ | ghorām anyāṃ śivām anyāṃ te tanū bahudhā punaḥ ||
Thần Vāyu nói: “Các Bà-la-môn thông hiểu Veda biết rằng vị thần này có hai hình tướng. Một hình tướng thì dữ dội, khiến người kính sợ; hình tướng kia là Śiva—cát tường và hiền hòa. Hơn nữa, mỗi một trong hai hình tướng ấy lại còn được hiểu theo nhiều biến thể khác nhau.”
