अध्याय १६ — शङ्कर-उमा-वरदानम् तथा तण्डि-स्तुतिः (Śaṅkara–Umā Boon-Granting and Taṇḍi’s Hymn)

दशनामसहस््राणि देवेष्वाह पितामह: । शर्वस्य शास्त्रेषु तथा दशनामशतानि च,पितामह ब्रह्माने पूर्वकालमें देवताओंके निकट महादेवजीके दस हजार नाम बताये थे और शास्‍्त्रोंमें भी उनके सहस्र नाम वर्णित हैं

daśanāmasahasrāṇi deveṣv āha pitāmahaḥ | śarvasya śāstreṣu tathā daśanāmaśatāni ca ||

Vāyu nói: “Thuở xưa, Đấng Tổ phụ (Brahmā) đã tuyên cáo trước chư thiên mười nghìn danh xưng của Śarva (Śiva). Cũng vậy, kinh điển còn ghi lại hàng trăm danh xưng của Ngài.” Lời này nhấn mạnh rằng thần linh được tiếp cận qua vô số tôn hiệu, và sự tưởng niệm cung kính danh hiệu (nāma) là con đường sùng kính được truyền thống xác chứng.
