येषां वृद्धश्न बालश्न सर्व: सम्मानमरहति । तपोविद्याविशेषात्तु मानयन्ति परस्परम्
yeṣāṁ vṛddhaśna bālaśna sarvaḥ sammānam arhati | tapovidyāviśeṣāt tu mānayanti parasparam ||
Bhīṣma nói: Trong hàng Bà-la-môn, dù là bậc lão niên hay chỉ là trẻ nhỏ, ai cũng đáng được tôn kính. Tuy vậy, trong cộng đồng của họ, họ đặc biệt kính trọng nhau tùy theo mức độ xuất sắc về khổ hạnh và học vấn—xem kỷ luật tâm linh và tri thức là thước đo chân thật của sự hơn kém.
