Educational Q&A

Recitation of sacred names/formulas at the time of battle is presented as a dharmic aid for a kṣatriya: it brings protection (kṣema) and causes hostile forces to fail, emphasizing inner alignment with righteousness as a source of strength.

Bhīṣma continues his instruction by describing the practical fruit of reciting certain names during combat: the reciter’s enemies head toward destruction, while the reciter’s welfare and safety turn favorable.
