नास्याहं न मदीयो<यं पापं कुर्याद् विमानित: । इति दद्याद् भयादेव दृढं मूढाय पण्डित:
bhīṣma uvāca | nāsyāhaṃ na madīyo 'yaṃ pāpaṃ kuryād vimānitaḥ | iti dadyād bhayād eva dṛḍhaṃ mūḍhāya paṇḍitaḥ |
Bhishma nói: “Ta chẳng thuộc về hắn, và hắn cũng chẳng thuộc về ta; nhưng nếu ta không cho gì, hắn sẽ thấy bị sỉ nhục và có thể làm điều tội lỗi hại ta.” Vì thế, người trí có thể dứt khoát bố thí—chỉ vì sợ hãi—cho kẻ ngu. Đó là sự bố thí do sợ mà có, không phải do thiện tâm hay chính đạo.
