Agastya-Māhātmya and Vasiṣṭha’s Protection of the Ādityas

करोति कर्म यद् वैश्यस्तद् गत्वा हुपजीवति । कृषिगोरक्ष्यवाणिज्यमकुत्सा वैश्यकर्मणि
karoti karma yad vaiśyas tad gatvā hy upajīvati | kṛṣigorakṣyavāṇijyam akutsā vaiśyakarmaṇi ||
Bhīṣma nói: “Bất cứ công việc nào Vaiśya làm, người đời đều sống nhờ nương tựa vào chính hoạt động ấy. Nông nghiệp, chăn giữ và bảo hộ bò, cùng thương mại—đó là bổn phận đúng đắn của Vaiśya; vì thế người ấy không nên khinh miệt hay hổ thẹn về nghề nghiệp của mình.”
