Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic hospitality: offering excellent, wholesome, universally pleasing food to a revered guest leads to genuine satisfaction and goodwill. The guest’s smile signifies approval and the ethical value of respectful service (atithi-satkāra) performed without ostentation.

Bhishma narrates that Krishna—understood here as Vyasa—eats the fine meal provided, becomes pleased, and as he gets up to leave, he smiles, indicating contentment and a favorable disposition toward the hosts.
