Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity

sa prāpnoti mahābhāgaḥ pūjyamāno 'psarogaṇaiḥ | saptānāṃ marutāṃ lokān vasūnāṃ cāpi so 'śnute ||

Educational Q&A

Bhishma teaches that disciplined restraint—control of mind and senses, moderation in food, detachment, and faithful daily offerings—creates spiritual merit that leads to exalted posthumous states, symbolized by attaining the realms of the Maruts and Vasus.

In Bhishma’s instruction on dharma and religious observances, he describes the फल (result) of a severe vow/ascetic regimen: the practitioner is honoured by Apsarases and reaches the divine worlds associated with the Maruts and the Vasus.
