उपवासफलात्मकविधिः — Upavāsa as Yajña-Equivalent Merit

ऑपन-माज बक। अऑि-्छऋाय षर्डाधिकशततमोब< ध्याय: मास

Yudhiṣṭhira uvāca—sarveṣām eva varṇānāṁ mlecchānāṁ ca pitāmaha | upavāse matir iyaṁ kāraṇaṁ ca na vidmahe ||

Yudhiṣṭhira thưa: “Bạch Tổ phụ, người thuộc mọi đẳng cấp—kể cả những kẻ ngoài trật tự ấy, gọi là mleccha—đều chuyên tâm vào việc nhịn ăn. Nhưng con không hiểu điều gì thật sự khiến họ hướng lòng như vậy. Nguyên do của việc thực hành upavāsa là gì?”
