Śama-prāptiḥ — Gautamī–Lubdhaka–Pannaga–Mṛtyu–Kāla-saṃvāda
Restraint through the Analysis of Karma and Time
Even when events seem driven by Kāla (Time) and manyu (anger), one must recognize moral responsibility: actions done in rage become nindita (censured) and lead to anxiety about gati (future destiny). The verse highlights ethical self-scrutiny after violence.
Yudhiṣṭhira laments the catastrophic outcome of the conflict, admitting that both sides—Pāṇḍavas and Dhārtarāṣṭras—were swept along by Time and anger, and he fears the spiritual and moral consequences of the blameworthy deeds committed.
