Post–Baka-vadha Residence and the Introduction of Yājñasenī’s Svayaṃvara (आदि पर्व, अध्याय १५३)
कामयत्यद्य मां भीरुस्तव नैषापराध्यति । अनड्रेन कृते दोषे नेमां गर्हितुमहसि,'राक्षसोंकी कीर्तिको नष्ट करनेवाले दुराचारी हिडिम्ब! तेरी यह बहिन तेरी आज्ञासे ही यहाँ आयी है; परंतु मेरा रूप देखकर यह बेचारी अब मुझे चाहने लगी है, अतः तेरा कोई अपराध नहीं कर रही है। कामदेवके द्वारा किये हुए अपराधके कारण तुझे इसकी निन्दा नहीं करनी चाहिये
kāmayaty adya māṁ bhīrus tava naiṣāparādhyati | anaṅgena kṛte doṣe nemāṁ garhitum arhasi ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana nói: “Hỡi nàng nhút nhát, hôm nay nàng khao khát ta; trong việc này nàng không có lỗi. Vì lỗi ấy do Anaṅga (Kāma, thần dục vọng) gây nên, ngươi chớ nên quở trách nàng.”
वैशग्पायन उवाच
The verse distinguishes personal culpability from desire-induced compulsion: when passion (personified as Kāma/Anaṅga) overwhelms someone, one should respond with restraint and avoid harsh blame, emphasizing compassion and measured moral judgment.
In the Hidimbā episode, the speaker explains that the woman’s attraction has arisen spontaneously upon seeing him; therefore she is not committing a deliberate offense, and she should not be reproached since the impulse is attributed to Kāma’s influence.
