FAQs

It implies that contact with a consecrated symbol of Īśvara (the liṅga) has transformative power: through devotion and sacred presence, the inner impurity (pāpa) covering the Self is removed, allowing clarity of the ātman.

The verse foregrounds darśana (reverent beholding) as a devotional discipline: approaching a consecrated liṅga with śraddhā, purity, and restraint functions as a practical limb of bhakti aligned with Pāśupata-oriented worship and inner purification.

By presenting liṅga-worship as a universally purifying means within the Kurma Purana (a Vaiṣṇava setting that honors Śiva), it reflects the text’s Shaiva–Vaishnava synthesis where devotion to Īśvara’s forms is mutually affirming rather than sectarian.
